Who we are
The Herald Fire Prevention Council (HFPC) is a nonprofit organization rooted in rural California, dedicated to protecting lives, homes, and landscapes from the growing threat of wildfire. Founded by community members, HFPC brings neighbors together to strengthen resilience, share knowledge, and take practical steps toward safety.
Our Mission
We believe wildfire prevention is a shared responsibility. Our mission is to:
Build Resilience: Support defensible space mapping, home-hardening projects, and fuel reduction efforts.
Educate & Empower: Provide accessible workshops, outreach campaigns, and resources for seniors, families, and diverse volunteers.
Foster Partnerships: Collaborate with local agencies, businesses, and volunteers to create sustainable, scalable models of fire prevention.
Preserve Legacy: Document and share stories of community action, ensuring lessons learned today guide future generations.
What We Do
From hands-on work parties to innovative campaigns like the Golden Paradox Challenge, HFPC connects donors, restaurants, and volunteers in creative ways that make resilience both accessible and sustainable. We also provide resources and training to help residents prepare their homes and properties, ensuring that every household has the tools to reduce fire risk.
Why It Matters
Wildfire doesn’t just threaten property—it threatens community. By working together, we can protect Herald and the surrounding Sacramento region, safeguard our rural way of life, and create a model of resilience that other communities can follow.
