True community fire resilience goes far beyond standard yard maintenance. Herald faces unique, high-stakes infrastructure and environmental risks that require immediate volunteer action:
- Roadside & Vacant Vineyard Clearing: Breaking the fuel continuity of unmanaged tall grasses along roadsides, vacant vineyards, and residential property lines—especially where they sit directly over high-pressure fuel lines.
- Aquifer & Watershed Protection: Deploying strategic clearing to prevent intense, fast-moving wildfires from creating toxic agricultural and residential chemical runoff that threatens our low-lying aquifers.
- Firewise Behavioral Recruitment: Mobilizing neighbors and adjacent property owners to adopt systemic, daily fire-safe behaviors.
