Why We Play

Welcome to Herald Fire Prevention Council's Golden Paradox Challenge—a game that mirrors the choices our community faces every day.

Like our beautiful rural landscapes, this game is deceptively simple but carries hidden risks. Each card you flip represents a decision: invest in prevention now (gold), or wait and risk everything later. Just as in real fire safety, timing is everything.

Every score you submit funds real fire prevention in our community. Your play becomes practice for the Golden Rule: protecting your neighbor protects yourself.

The Paradoxes We Face

💰 Economic Paradox

We invest in resilience (gold) while firefighting costs (oil) drain us. Prevention now saves catastrophic costs later.

🧠 Learning Paradox

Fire safety seems complex, yet ordinary neighbors can master defensible space and home hardening.

🤝 Ethical Paradox

We know we should protect each other, yet many delay action until disaster strikes.

✨ Beauty & Fragility

Our landscapes are stunning but vulnerable. Preserving beauty requires confronting fragility.

How to Play

  1. Start with nothing – Your score begins at 0, just like before you harden your home.
  2. Flip cards wisely – You get 5 flips. Number cards add to your score. Face cards (J, Q, K) double it. Jokers cut it in half.
  3. Decide when to hold – Cash out early for a safe score, or risk more flips for glory?
  4. Submit your score – Join the weekly leaderboard (Wednesday to Tuesday). Play as many times as you want—your highest score counts!
  5. Win weekly prizes – Top score each week wins a prize from our restaurant partners. In case of a tie, earliest submission wins.
  6. Support the mission – Donate to turn prevention into action across our community.

🏆 New week, new competition! Each Wednesday, the leaderboard resets and everyone gets a fresh chance to win. Play multiple times—only your best score counts for the week.
